They are reasonably common under rocks etc in the open rocky country in Val Verde and Terrell counties. In south TX, I have found quite a few under trash around the towns of Freer and Bruni.
They tend to be found in rocky open areas. They are more likely to be found on slopes or on top of a hill than down in an arroyo.
As for AOR geckos, brevis isn't seen on the road much in the eastern Transpecos or South Texas.
Further west they can be more common, but they are nowhere near as abundant as variegatus are on roads in AZ. At the best Texas localites (River road for example) you might see a dozen in a night (whereas in AZ you can find many dozens in a good night in the right habitat).
