Rescued this one Saturday night in San Antonio (actually, the Converse area on the northeast side of town). It was in some folks' yard; they heard it from inside the house--thought a water sprinkler had turned on! They called 911, who called the sheriff, who called our herp club, who called me.

I get to the place, the snake isn't in sight, and the backyard grass is deep. I stupidly wore sandals, so I cautiously probed the area in front of me with every step. I ended up finding the snake coiled in the corner of the yard, and scooped it effortlessly into a bucket (with the help of my tongs). Then, the sheriff showed up. They had just planned to shoot the snake.

The next day, I drove a few miles east, into the countryside, and released it. My neighbor says we should eat the next one!

Chris
