It's been many years (early 80's) since I've been there, but the Harvey Wheedon Rd and Elmo Wheedon Rd off of hwy 30, and along hwy 30 by the Navasota River used to produce awesome L. triangulum amaura, Crotalus horridus and Agkistrodon contortrix. Also Leonard Rd off of 2818 for more milk snake spots. The milk snakes are beauties too, amaura patterns with the red color of the annulata types to the SW! Go ask Jim Dixon at A&M.
