1 - Where do you live? TX rats are more common in the eastern half of the state and more likely to be found in a house (but that doesn't mean anything for sure).
2. Can you post a pic? Then we could tell you for sure.
Glossy Snakes tend to have a more pointed snout (but that is a comparative thing. With only one snake, that could be hard to decide).
