yeah matas get really big
like snappers and florida softshells
they used to say 18 inches was max (most old books report this figure)
but i have seen 19 and 20 inchers reported and just this year there was a pic on kingsnake somewhere i believ(and a pretty convincing one) of a 22 incher next to a meter stick in good view. In any case they are one of those ("you need apond or big kiddie pool or huge feeding trough or stock tank" turtles. Very cool though.
