He has a lot of personality....guess if I lived through having two limbs chewed off I would have a lot too. He is from a friend of mine....not from local.
I am in NY and the snappers are all over in the swampy areas where they have built all the shopping malls and warehouses...figures right.
A few years ago we found dozens of hatchings in the Walmart parking lots...trying to get to the swamp behind. The moms had laid in the landscape mulches in the divider islands since we had had a drought and the ground everywhere was literally rock hard.
But this little guy is a mystery. Our creek is shallow and fast moving....okay for sallies and a few frogs but never turtles. All steep shale walls and no soil to nest. Gotta wonder how far downstream he might have come. He/she too has a lot of personality.
