from what I have read UV is very controversial in turtles anyway.. Some feel that it is vital and others say it is not necessary??? So who knows? I know some who have had turtles for decades with out ever having UV and others who have it I have seen no difference in health. I use one in the winter months for my musk and sometimes she comes out of the water to bask not as often as the other turtles I have though. In summer time she is out in a huge inclosed pond and I never see her out of the water.. ever.. I think its a personal choice. Perhaps ask your vet what they think??? good luck
