Have you read "the year of the turtle"? Your mention of nomadic movements reminds me of that book. I have it somewhere, but haven't read it in years, I'll have to go dig it up again.

I do agree with your wild animal sentiments. I think for many (possibly most?) keepers, goals are on reproduction or "pets" or attractive decorations to the house (as in the tanks being nice, not supposing anything gruesome). My goal with my animals is to interact with them as little as possible, and to provide as natural an environment as I can. Luckily, I'm now living in my own home on two acres, so I have space to work on my projects even more now.

I'm really getting stuck on your mention of wanderings in spotteds... I haven't thought about that in much detail before. My new plans for pens will have them in one that is 16x16, half pond, but I have the space and may very well do some extensions to it in the coming years to allow for a long corridor for them to wander through to another pond location on the other side of that area of my property (maybe 80-90 feet away in a straight line, around other things, the walls would make it probably 120 feet to wander). It might be a bit of a pain to maintain two ponds, especially so far apart so they couldn't be linked, but I might just have to try this....

great idea....
