the pleco and catfish should be fine, in fact a small amount of salt may be beneficial, but the salt may upset the tiger barb (who is probably stressed as it is being that he is alone)
there are several companies that make it; here is a pic of a popular product:

and some info about its use:

but if the infection on the FRT is fungal, a decrease in pH and the use of an antifungal agent like acriflavin may be in order (never in the tank, in seperate does in an outside container) and periods out of the water is really the best remedy to kill the fungus
