You're right, it can be expensive when you start to get over 35 gallons. Besides, a big fish tank can't be stood on it's end. I just happen to have a ton of extra tanks....
:::Why bother when you can just buy a cage that already does what you need it to? If you're in Canada, sure, it might be easier to buy a tank and modify it, but not everyone lives in Canada. =)
:::But, by the time someone spends all the cash on a 55 gallon fish tank, then buys a screen top, then buys the piece of acrylic (plexiglass) to modify it, you would be better off just buying an arboreal snake cage. Add up all those costs, and tell me if you can do it for less than $150. Doubtful.
::I don't know about that...I bought a 40 gallon tall for $40 (new), and top for $10. I just use a damp towel on the top, but in any case, a piece of plexiglass isn't going to cost $100.
