There is no reason why bubbling water would cause a nocturnal animal to be active during the day, so that was just good old fashioned BS.

To me, it sounds like it's probably trying to hide. You definitely need to put a hide box in the cage. Amazon Tree Boas don't spend all of their time perched like Emeralds or Green Tree Pythons do. You also need to look (especially around the animal's mouth) for mites.
