ya Im not saying that you should put it in there but you could if that is all you could find. or for temp housing. My two that are in quarentine are in a 60 gallon rubbermaid thing for a month or until I can get a thourough vet check and then they will go out with the other two. You are right that should be the minimum. :)

:I have to dissagree on one point. A 40 gallon rubbermaid is much too small. Tortoises need room to move about. The smallest enclosure I would put a Russian in would be 4 feet by 3 feet. That would give it 12 square feet of floor space to play around in. You can get away with less, but in my opinion it's not fare to the animal in the long run. Just my 2 cents
