Russian shell

When I got my Russian almost three years ago, he had a small scar on his shell about the diameter of a lollipop stick, maybe a little smaller. It didn't seem to be a problem but lately I've noticed that it's gotten slightly larger, like the shell is chipping off around it. The shell underneath is a light grey color and it doesn't seem to be very deep. He also has a slight discoloration on one of his scutes, sort of a mottled orangy color (I can try posting a pic if necessary). He had this too when I purchased him, and it seems to have grown a little in size recently as well. What could be causing this? His shell is not soft and he is just as energetic and active as ever. Please help!!!
