You can buy flagyl (metronidazole) and any pet shop that has fish medicines. The only problem, is that this medication is sold in tablet form, and is very hard to dose down for a small animal. My vet said he breaks these very tiny tablets into quarters for a small puppy, but he said even at a quarter tablet it was really too much. A human on this medication takes just one tablet at a time, and these tablets are extremely small. These tablets are sold through the catalogs for fish also. It should be noted that this medication is EXTREMELY Bitter and foul tasting. The liquid form uses neutralizers to counteract the taste. It is therefore reccomended that you get the medication from the vet. To go on the cheap side at any vet whether or not they actually treat reptiles, just take a stool sample in to have it checked to determine whether or not you need it in the first place. It will cost you just $6-$8 dollars, and the vet will not have to examine the animal. He will however have to research the proper dosage for reptiles. As for the Panacur (fenbendazole) horse wormer you have to be very careful with the dose, as just a pea size dab of this concentrated wormer will worm an animal that is 10 lbs. It is relatively safe, and overdoses do not usually cause significant harm.

:You can get a horse dewormer which is panacur and you would have to get liquid flagyl from a vet, or with a prescription? You really need to have a vet tell you what are the proper doseges for your tortoise.

::The last time I checked liquid metronidazole was only available through a Vet.
