I would say it's not positive yet what causes it. Could be
genetic, environment, humidity, lighting, food, exercise
or a combination. Seems that most torts pictured on this
forum have it slightly, this one is grotesque on this link.
Torts that grow very slowly have it as well as some that
grow quickly, it's difficult to predict or pin the exact
cause down. Sunshine and being outdoors makes a big
difference so I think that has a lot to do with it, the
indoor lighting set-ups aren't even close to natural light.
Ideally, sulcatas should be smooth, not bumpy, and certainly
not like a mountain range. However, if somebody posts a picture
of their pet, it's polite to say he's cute and all, but not
really polite to point out that he's pyramided like the Egyptians
because this would be something they probably already know
and are trying to cope with. Kinda like pointing out to
people that they are fat and have a double chin. Not nice. lol!
