ticks and tortoises

I was wondering if people have problems with ticks and their tortoises. we just moved to the country and the dogs and I have been getting mauled by ticks but my sulcata hasn't on his supervised walkabouts. I still check him all the time but I was wondering what, if any diseases I should be worrying about and do ticks go after tortoises much? we are building him an outdoor enclosure so he can be outside all day soon.
