he was just excited about the cuttlebone, and should settle to
a normal amount. It's not going to harm him. As to the Mazuri,
it does not promote pyramiding at all (there are sulcatas on
here that from day 1 never got anything but grasses, no mazuri,
and are pyramided) Ed uses Mazuri and has NO problems with it.
The protein in Mazuri is reduced to a small amount when you
add weight to the food, via water. Soak it for a second in
warm water, then drain completely. Now you have increased
the weight so proportionally the protein level is below most
greens now. You will see on the Mazuri bag that they recommend
feeding 2-4% of the body weight. Even at 41 pounds, Teddy only
eats 2 cups a day, and leaves it when he's had enough. I get
the 25 pound bags and even freeze a lot of it, but it's still
so plentiful I just toss out extra he leaves. I feed him
probably 5 days a week Mazuri.
For a yearling, you can add it a few times a week, give him
1/4 cup and see what he does with it.
