Well, provided I get done in the next 3-5 weeks with my planned renovations, I might begin building some unlandscaped pens in my protected yard. I want to do these so that if I should decide to add animals or separate out individuals, I will have walled pens that can be easily set up as appropriate for the species.
I've met one keeper who houses hermans outdoors year round, close to my area. I was wondering if anyone else does this, and what they have learned.
Any other species? I'm in zone 7, central north carolina, less than 20 miles from chapel hill.
I have a variety of locations available, from a well draining hill to a lower spot that will stay moist. Area has full sun except for any new plantings I make or shade shelves I put in. The soil is nearly as hard as concrete, but I can make diggable areas.
Anyway, Ideally, like my other pen projects, I'd like to work towards as much of a "hands-off" pen as possible for any species I have. I am busy planting all kinds of food producing items, and off course graze can be easily grown. Space is not much of an issue, so I wonder how much space of planted graze a trio of a particular species suited to my climate would need.
