I'd like to see a closer picture of gus.
For where you're at I'd suggest a Russian tortoise or Greek Tortoise from the northern range (Tedtudo ibera).
Redfoots are the greatest but would be a challange for you although the Cherryheads seem to be quite cold tolerant.
