I don't see what you mean by the color change - the tail looks a uniform red to me, but if you see something like some old shed that I don't notice, please tell me which pic it is. His tail is a nice red in contrast to his body, but most reds I've seen look like that. I haven't seen any old shed up close. Or did you mean "old shed" as in "hasn't shed in a while"? Tegus are different than the agamids and monitors I'm used to. Glad everyone likes the pics.
