I only gave crickets to my tegus once while they were babies. Just make sure to include some type of insects as a large part of their diet since they are high in protein. I feed them a lot of superworms. One of my tegus went from 92 to 780 grams in a month and a half without crickets. You don't need to put up with those chirping, dieing by the dozen, stinky rotten dead crickets. Try to include as much variety in the diet as you can though.
