I've heard people use both. But cooking the meat can sometimes leach out some the beneficial vitamins and minerals. I got the idea of using raw meat from the San Diego Zoo (SDZ) diet; which is 10 lbs. raw lean ground turkey, 90 grams crushed bone meal, and 2 crushed Centrum vitamins. I just kind of adapted it a little.
But I've heard that more monitor breeders use cooked meats. In an article I was reading, the specific breeder used cooked meat versus live prey to keep his animals tamer. I'm not sure why he didn't use raw meat since it's still not live prey. But that seemed to work as well.
I've used cooked lean ground beef in the past with Blake, but I've had such a better response to the raw turkey that I'll never go back. He's got so much more energy! He's definitely thriving on his current diet.

:Is it better to feed raw meat as opposed to cooked??
