Bottom line is, if this is indeed important to hobbyists, zoo keepers, etc., then let them come up with the list. I simply do not see any trained biologist wasting any kind of time to compile a list that does not benefit the scientific community (and again, this does not make the public any friendlier towards herps, as some will claim, cause a bullsnake will always be a bullsnake, a chicken snake a chicken snake, etc.)

I am not well versed in the so called "standard names" (especially at the subspecific level), but I also have never had trouble communicating with any person (academic, hobbyist, zoo keeper, museum personnel, etc.) on a US herp, and I have worked in and/or dealt with all of the mentioned professions. Again, it sounds like biologists with too much time on their hands...
