and actually, for me, to make sayi its own species along with ruthveni, catenifer, and melanoleucus would be a distant alternative to keeping them all melanoleucus. I just think to recognize them as two distinct species, with bullsnakes lumped in with gopher snakes, while maintaining ruthveni its own species is just a poor classification scheme.
