I perhaps used an unfortunate play on the word STANDARD. I was not even discussing English names, but rather what taxa are on one list but not the other or neither.
If English names were so easy to standardize, why hasn't it been accomplished in 50 years? Every time the editor chair is changed we get a new list of "standard common names." Could it be that deciding these names by the establishment elite is a failed method? Why doesn't the SSAR/HL poll its entire membership as to what common names should be? I don't think you can standardize common names by fiat or imposed publication rules.
