Heh, Gatorland is about 3 minutes away from my house.
I've had the most luck just in the small area around my house.
This past year I've found about 5 or 6 corn snakes...all but 2 were DOR, though. :( . Also have seen black racers, ribbon snakes, brown snakes, ringneck snakes, eastern glass lizards, green and brown anoles, and mediterranean geckos in the neighborhood. I think I'll see less snakes, though, because there's been a lot of construction around here. There's a couple of large Fl softshells living in the retention pond - they like to come on the grass and bask. Also have seen a couple mud turles. Lots of amphibians. narrow-mouth toad, squirrel treefrog, green treefrog, toads, and for a couple of weeks there were leopard frogs all over the place - about one every 2 feet on the road. Oh, and this is without really *looking* for anything.
Compare this to NH where I lived until '95 - in the same sq ft, all I can remember seeing was garter snakes, toads, and frogs.
