I live in maryland on the chesapake so wild snakes are quite common around here. well, so are mice. so naturally i have put glue traps around my house to catch the rodents. well, last night around 10, i had just caught a baby mouse and sent him to the great beyond. i got a new trap and went to put it where i caught the mouse, i went upstairs and put it down, and then went to check the other traps. to my surprise i found a 13" rat snake stuck to the trap. i have an empty cage i had setup for a ball python i am going to buy next week at the mid-atlantic reptile show, so i took the snake down to the cage and poured olive oil on it, it soon freed itself from the trap, and now it is doing fine. it is a beautiful snake and i plan on keeping him. it is having a little trouble adjusting, it still tries to bite and doesn't let me hold em', but wouldn't you too if you went through such a traumatic experience. tuesday my order of pinkies comes in, so ill find out if he is ready to eat. here is a pic of it(i say it because i dont know if it is male or female). kind of poor quality cause i took it with an old digital camera, but it gets the job done.
PS: how long is the lifespan of a rat snake?
