With all of the rain that we've been having out here
in CA, I thought that I'd head down to the beach and see if
any snakes got washed out of the hills. I went down by
the Santa Monica Mountains where one of the creeks empties into the
ocean and started turning over driftwood and trash. The
third piece of wood I flipped had a Southern Pacific
Rattler under it. A bit later, I found a gopher snake
and a striped racer a bit later under the same piece of
plywood. Then, about twenty minutes later, I flipped another
piece of plywood and found the most beautiful female zonata that
I have ever seen. Thirty-eight uninterrupted triads and
lots of red. Ten minutes later, I found an only slightly less beautiful
male. Needless to say, on the way home I bought twenty
lottery tickets. (They were all losers, but WHO CARES?)
I LOVE EL NINO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
