I was a REAL rookie...
An experieced collector was taking me cruising
down it S.Texas. We had been before and always seen
lots of snakes.... Our conversation during the hunt
turned to talk about snake movements, i.e. why do they
cross the road at night how far out on the concrete/asphalt
would they get before they realised they werent in habitat etc.
During this conversation I in my infinite rookie wisdom
stupidly declared " Snakes are never found on bridges"...
It seems as if god was listening and laughingly reached
down to smite yours truly... not 30 seconds had passed
, we crossed an 80ft long bridge and lo & behold, right smack
in the middle of the bridge, the middle of the road sat
a 4 foot long emorys rat snake...
The moral of this story... man should NEVER put his "rules"
on what animals will and won't do....
Moral # 2 .... rookies should spend more time looking, and
less time talking
