I live in DeLand, FL and have recently heard stories about monitor lizards being found in some of the lakes in the immediate area. Apparently they are so fast moving that the wildlife guys can't catch them. One was captured on video tape and after being aired on our local news station, more and more people are reporting sightings.
I am curiously fascinated with this although I know virtually nothing about herps, specifically monitor lizards. Where are my best resources for finding out about these creatures, how could they be here,...surely they are not native to this area? ARe they really dangerous? Some reports say they will eat a child....how similar or dissimilar are they to alligators?
Thanks for the help.
