I never kept any for very long, but It was fun, : and I really liked seeing my mom get freaked out by them. : Anyway, I caught this really pretty ribbon snake in a : cranberry bog and decided to keep it for a while. It : ate feeder fish with gusto and seemed very content in its : cage in my room on the second story of our house. : Well, one day of course it was missing, though I still : don't know how it got out, and I couldn't find it anywhere : I gave up looking after a few days and decided not to : tell my mom that a snake had gotten loose in her house. : Since she wouldn't go near my room (another benefit of : snakes) she wouldn't have known if I lost a hundred or : got a hundred more. : Well, over a week later I was in the basement in a room : that is precisely the farthest travelling distance you can : reach in our house from my room, typing away on my dad's : computer and playing games. : I was barefoot as it was summer, and I jumped up and yelled : when Something cold slithered across my feet. : I gathered myself back up and there was the little ribbon : snake, two stories down and lots of halls and twists and : stairways away from where he had escaped. Somehow he had : escaped teh watchful eyes of two cats and one dog that loved : killing snakes and made it to the basement. : I quickly smuggled him back up to my room and fed him : some fish. He went back into the wild shortly after.
