one day on a bridge

When I was little I used to fish for bream with breadballs that I made from a slice of white bread.
My mom would allow one piece a day to fish with so it was pretty valuable. One day I was fishing on this bridge that was by my house. I had walked down the bridge and left my bread behind on the railing. Then I see a fish crow swooping down to get my bread. I run towards it yelling and waiving my arms but too late--he has my bread and flies off. Then I see something on the railing where my bread was. A small lump. I walk over to see what it is and WOW! a hatchling three stripe mud turtle! Evidently, the crow had just caught it and was flying with it when it saw my bread and tried for both. He must of set it down while grabbing my bread and then got frightened by my approach. The little muddy was completely unharmed and I kept it for some time before releasing it in the canal under the bridge.
The irony? It was the first hatchling mud turtle "I" ever caught!
