well duckweed, anacharis, and eldoea are certainly the cheapest. I have realey seen a healthy painted adult or cooter/slider refuse elodea. Water lettuce is more dense and seems to be loved by coters slider and some painteds but i am unsure of its real nuitritional analysis. water hyacinth is very popular and very nutritious but by far the most expensive of the ones i have mentioned.
when buying check out e bay and loo up "wholesale" and "water plants" on the web
its way cheape thna pond stores or pet stores
some pet stores will order large quantities of plants for you and sell them cheaper than retail if you ask, though. even plants they don't carry.
