Hey...Im not exactly sure, but Im beginning to think that the pH levels effect softshells quite a bit. I had about 20 baby chinese softshells over a period of about 2 weeks and not one of them lived. Try getting some pH buffer(you'll want a lower pH) or some peat extract from your local pet shop and try that out.
