In Reply to: 4 new baby softshells. PLEASE HELP ASAP!!! posted by LeahZeke on September 15, 2002 at 09:58:43:
Well first of all, if you plan on keeping all four together then a 10 gallon probably won't suffice for very long. A good rule of thumb is about a gallon per inch of carapace (shell) and if you are keeping more than one turtle in a tank then you need to increase that a bit for territory reasons. Turtles like to have territory. Second, it will be awhile before you can know what the sex is. Female softshells will end up being a bit bigger than males, but I am guessing it is too soon to tell. Just how big would you guess that these turtles are??
Third, a good turtle food suppliment like ReptoMin Turtle food, or Zoo Meds Turtle food can be bought a a pet store. These are usually good sources of nutrience, but eventually, you will need to feed them small fish, shrimp, etc. as well as the turtle food. But for now, the store bought food should be ok. I am not exactly sure what kind they are. Are they tan and cream colored or green with small black circles on their backs?? If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. I have a softie and would be more than willing to give advice. Hope this little bit helps!
