HELP! Just found a softshell turtle. What do I feed it?

I found a softshell turtle today in the river with my best friend and it is about 2" by 2" (just shell). I fed it live minnows (four of them) and he(or she) didn't hasn't eaten them. I'm not quite sure what they are supposed to eat. If anyone has any info PLEASE tell me what to feed it and why it didn't eat the minnows. P.S I am only 12 and my mom doesn't have a drivers license and I can't get to a pet store.
