Thank you tony for answering my questions. I have had my turtle for about 6 days now and he is still doing good. The placostamus has not bothered him at all. I have been looking for silica sand at the hard ware stores and no luck there all sold out. I found some at the pet store but they wanted $10.00 for 10lbs and that was too much. I called another pet store and they said that play sand was bad for turtles. I dont believe them though because they are always trying to sell something. This is probably a dumb question but how do I clean this sand. I mean I really cant wash it in a strainer because it will all wash away unless I put it in a thank of water and use a hose to drain off the excess water and just swish it around. Could you please give me a tip on how you would do this. Also I am going to keep him in the 30 gallon tank should I drain off at least half of the water or should it be almost full. He dont really have anything to crawl out and bask on and this worries me a little. I have been feeding him turtle pellets and he seems to like those and he ate one small gold fish. He has some scars on his shell, but they looked healed when I bought him. If you can give me any other advice on this turtle I would certainly appriciate it if not I understand. Thanks again for your help.
Meldoy.
