I have heard of at least three start-ups in the past 5 years for a NJ Herp Society.

But, so far, none have become established. I know some of the previous attempts failed because the organizers did not have their reptiles permitted.

If you wish to start one -- make sure you have your paperwork in order (if you keep reptiles); try to get an association with a school or zoo; and try to get support of educators.
