In Reply to: Alligator snappers' head to body ratio differ between sexes? posted by Accomplice on January 13, 2003 at 12:07:07:
:I've noticed that some adult alligator snappers seem to have larger heads in relation to the shell/ body size. I'm wondering if its related to the sex of the turtle. Or perhaps these slight differences are regional and have developed to better match the various diets. My turtle is from Louisiana and seems to have a smaller head in relation to its shell. How can I tell if its sex? Large adult females could have a 19" shell right?

Kevin My turtle is only 3" more than yours but 40lbs heavier, I think as they get older they'll start filling out in the head and other places other than shell lenght. Steve
