Powerhead in snapper's tank

Hi- I have two small ally snappers in a 55 gal aquarium with two Aquaclear 805 powerheads to filter it. They've been in the tank for a month - doing great. Come Saturday - one of them gets it's tail stuck in the powerhead and almost drowned. Does anyone know what I can put around the powerhead to block the turtle from getting stuck? He got his tail stuck on the water flow adjuster...thanks.
