:well if you are serious and can afford it you might want to have the pigtails x-rayed. Some super tortoise breeders have told me that some of their warpeed shelled hatchlings have unusual spinal curvature and there is speculation that as they get older they may become partially paralyzed.
::my guess; based on my fish breeding experience, is that if the tail was curled because of an incubation problem, rather then bad genes, then its not a problem as the turtle gets older.
Its probobly similar to getting an animal with a missing toes or something. It really shouldn't affect it through life. I was told that pigtails get caught on twigs sometimes and drown, but I only use smooth rocks in my habitats::
