Vet Check-ups for adult alligator snappers?

I've been told that the pink pigment on my alligator snapper's shell may be something a vet should check out. Do you guys ever take your large snappers to annual check-ups? Should I get a parasite check done by a vet? I'm wondering if its too stressful or risky (sedation) to do without any really pressing emergency. If it warms up and this guy seems to be eating okay and generally healthy should I bother with it?
