Alligator snapper question

I've got a 30 gallon tank set up for 8 baby alligator snappers. I've kept turtles for years and know how to set them up. The tank consists of driftwood, rocks, plants, etc. I do regular water changes and the temp. is OK. Strange thing, for the last couple of days the turtles are acting like they are just dying to get out of the water. They are piling up on top of the wood and the filter powerhead. They all seem sort of agitated about something. Any similar experiences or opinions?
