:Did they climb out of round tanks? I've been thinking that snappers might be prone to move logs & other materials in the tank around and then climb out on them. When I put a log in mine I may screw some 2X4's extending out from it so that it can't be pushed close any edge of the tank. Now that I think of it that doesn't sound like it would look very nice. Perhaps screwing various logs together in a configuration that would keep the high parts in the center of the tank would look better. If there are particularly vulnerable places on the tank(s) where the turtles could escape you could screw two sections of plywood together forming an L shape. Secure the plywood so that one portion of the 'L' sits over the lip of the tank blocking the climbers. That worked on a wood framed pond I used to have. I can't wait to hear all about that monster turtle.

::I've had 50lb.ers climb out of 2' high tanks. Any ideas on how to prevent this will be helpful. I don't need my 100lber getting out. Thanks, Steve

:the tank that was climbed out of is 6x2x2. nothing else was in the tank but the turtle (18" shell,55lbs.) another turtle about the same size even pushed wooden pallets off the top then climbed out. I been told to lower the water level(not higher than 3/4 full but it gets too hot in the summer. I will probably need to build some kind of guard around the top when I get my new tank (6'x5x2) rubbermaid.
