Hey All-
Most of us with big ali'snaps probably don't use any substrates in their big tubs because it makes cleaning helluva lot easier.
But it seems that really small ones (less than 6" carapace) with their scrawny little legs might benefit to have something under them as the crawl around.
Big ones seem to have no problem moving around on smooth surfaces because they have more weight to push down on their feet, but it seems like the little ones need a little more traction. And unlike other turtles (i.e. RES) they learn to swim over smooth surfaces but ali'snaps are just sherman tanks underwater.
I know gravel in turtle tanks are a pain to clean, but if you vaccum it weekly, it should be ok.
Just curious to find out what other snapper heads think.
Thanks for all the replies,
Gam
