How about putting the clay down then gravel then the liner? That way if they tear the liner the gravel may help keep the silt out of the pond.

I figure it'll be much like the visibility I get of seeing my turtle against the dark plastic of his current set-up. I'll sink some logs in the middle and hope they don't spend 100% of the time in the under-deck den. Also, the yellow ones may gravitate towards the fake rock waterfall area which may be closer to their shell color.

: Sound like a great project, Good luck with the liner, the gravel should be a big help, You might want to rethink the putting clay in there. The particles are so small, it's hard to filter out, and your water clarity will be reduced.
