BTS problem

I have a 9 month old BTS. Recently I have noticed when he goes to the bathroom, he makes a sound that sounds like he is straining. He also makes these quick slight movements sometimes as if something is bothering him.Could possibly be impacted? I have had him on newspaper for over a month now. I had him on bark chips before that, but switched to paper for fear of him eating it and becoming impacted. Is it possible that he could have a piece of bark in him for over a month?
Has anyone experienced these sort of symptoms before?
