: So what are we supposed to do...stop buying and selling snakes unless we either have access to or can afford air freight??? Where we live, it would be a 3-4 hours drive to the nearest airport to receive air freight. Let's see....$70 for the freight, plus 6-8 hour round trip (gas, meals etc.) and how much did we just pay for that snake?? Or how much would we have to charge a buyer for shipping in that case?

: UPS is allowing shipments of snakes from select breeders in Oklahoma on a trial basis. If all goes well (and it has so far) then they will likely allow snakes to be shipped nationwide by this summer, as long as they are non-venomous. Once UPS changes policy, I expect Fed Ex and Airborne to follow suit so they don't lose money.

: Until that happens, there are few choices except to send them on through incognito and hope for the best. The breeder should have warned you about the risk. It's minimal, but does exist.

: Now, you got your snake, thank heavens, and I understand your frustration with it. If it bothers you that much to ship them right now then just don't have anymore shipped until UPS opens it up.

I have had all my snakes shipped via USPS or UPS/Fedex. No problems here. The answer than is to find or create Pet Shops for Snakes in every local community, so buyers can go buy them direct. Bring the product to the Consumer and avoid all shipping.

Not everyone lives within manageable distance from an airport.

My parrot came from a specialty "Bird" Store...so why not create "Snake" stores....
Than this whole post and this forum won't have to have these nasty little "illegal accusations" posted on it....
