Shipping Burmese Python...is it legal?

Hi:
I am new to this shipping thing, and was wondering if anyone could answer me a question. I am in NY state. Someone in KY wants to buy my 12' Burmese Python. I was told by someone a few months ago that it is illegal to ship snakes here in NY state. Unfortunately that person is now in the hospital unable to speak or have visitors due to a recent car accident, so I can't ask him about it, and there is no one else near me who would know. Can I ship this snake? And if so through who? UPS? Delta? I've sent an inquiry to UPS so hopefully I'll find out for sure either here or from them, thanks in advance!!
