On Friday, June 15th, someone 'adopted' 21 rats : : from a San Diego animal shelter (details on private request). : : The original owner of the animals was tragically killed in a head-on : : car collision, leaving 40 pet rats behind. 19 of the rats were : : already adopted out from the shelter; however, before the remaining : : 21 could be re-homed, they disappeared. We are extremely concerned : : they will be used for snake food or as feeder breeders. : : These rats are *not* feeders. They are expensive fancy rats who : : were beloved pets - and they deserve better. The only reason the : : rats were even at the shelter is because every other rescue in : : town is completely full - and we were assured no harm would come : : to the animals. : : All we know is that the 'adopter' was male, lives in the San : : Diego area, and may be an animal control officer.
